Vuvalu

Kidswear

Vuvalu is a children's clothing store whose owners --with more than 40 years of experience in this business-- wanted to leap to the e-commerce world. We took care of the brand and it's web development.

Branding

In the process of creating the brand our first step was naming, which always has to be done before the visual identity. The name inspires the image, never the other way around.

For that purpose we assigned 5 of our people, always with very clear premises: the name ought to have a friendly "ring" to it and connect with both the children audience and their parents; besides the brand had to aim for an international public, therefore the name would have to work in different languages and be available in the ".com" domain.

Under these circumstances we got to work, coming up with more than 20 options until we found the right name: Vuvalu.

In the phase of the creation of the visual identity we were playing typographically with the smiley faces and the colors that usually represent the two genders, boys and girls.

Powered by Drupal

For the website we planned an architecture based in Drupal 7. We were especially carefully with the hierarchy and taxonomy of each product, as they are key aspects of the business.

Buying from your phone

A crucial part of this project was conceiving the website under the Mobile First paradigm. Offering different solutions depending on the customer's device. Adapting all the content to different screen sizes and directions needed over five types of "media queries" to meet the first rule of responsive design: don't hide or remove anything in order to adapt.

The most complicated challenge was carrying filters from the sidebar product list over to the mobile design. For that we chose to have a drop-down menu showing all the filters.

Integration with brick-and-mortar stores

In this case, the existence of of two brick-and-mortar stores with a sells and management software already adapted to each other forced us to develop a custom integration module. The managing software periodically generates a series of .csv files with data of the products, including prices, size and color references, availability etc. These files are processed creating or updating the corresponding nodes in Drupal.
